Talk about breaking the mould! Kaye Scott is a true pioneer of womens boxing in Australia, taking part in the first ever female bout after the ban was lifted on womens boxing in NSW in 2009.
Since then, she has built an impressive list of achievements: 2016 World Championship silver medalist, 2014 Commonwealth Games captain, and Elite female amateur boxer on the Australian team.
We caught up with Kaye recently to find out what she is up to now.
What are you training for?
The primary goal for this year is to qualify through for the 2018 Commonwealth Games boxing team as the 69kg female representative.
What does a training week look like for you?
My current training schedule involves 2 training sessions per day, 6 days a week. I also teach 2 pilates classes and try to participate in 1 yoga class each week too! There is boxing sessions every day which can involve a variety of different sessions such as: sparring, partnerwork, heavybag, technical pad session, footwork and agility drills and shadow boxing. Other sessions include aerobic runs, interval/sprint work, strength training.
What has been your hardest training session to date?
Recently we had some tough training sessions over in Colorado Springs, USA. We had competition sparring against the US national team with 5x 4 minute rounds (normal matches are 3x3mins). The extra workload combined with jet lag and training at altitude was really demanding!!
What do you do to recover?
-aiming for at least 8 hours every night
- particularly ingesting enough protein each day which is extremely important for the body to successfully repair and build muscle tissue. Supplementing my regular diet (chicken, eggs, fish) with ANPC protein powder is a convenient and tasty way to make sure I hit my targets.
3) REGULAR MASSAGE
- weekly; in conjunction with regular stretching and rolling post workouts
Tell us something about you that most people don't know?
I'm from a really big family of 8! Mum and dad had 6 kids; 5 girls and 1 boy (all full siblings).
We couldn't be prouder to have Kaye on our team of Ambassadors. We wish her an incredible year of training and hitting goals (pardon the pun), and look forward to seeing her knock em dead (sorry we couldn't help ourselves) at the 2018 Commonwealth Games on the sunny Gold Coast!
